What a difference a few days make. We took the top picture on Sunday, January 29th. Three days later, Trevin came home from school with a slight fever. By Friday night he was in the ICU at Primary Children's fighting for his life. He's been on a ventilator and had a breathing tube to help him breathe; he's been on medication to keep his blood pressure up; and he's on two kinds of antibiotics for double pneumonia and a blood infection. We're happy to report that he's making some small progress, albeit slowly. We wouldn't say he's "turned the corner" yet because he's still in the ICU on the breathing machine, but he is in the process of "turning the corner." We hope he'll be breathing on his own in a couple of days. For now, his breathing, heart rate and blood pressure are stable with the support machines, and the antibiotics are fighting the infections in his lungs and bloodstream. The chest X-rays show he still has bacteria in both lungs, but the doctors can tell from listening to his lungs that he's moving air through them. He gets suctioned out at least every two hours, and we're always shocked at the amount of gunk that comes out of him. We expect that each day will continue to bring small progress until we can take him home and see his beautiful smile again!
We want to thank you for your concern for Trevin. We especially thank you for keeping Trevin in your prayers, fasting for him and putting his name on the temple prayer rolls. We know there is tremendous power in prayer and fasting. Special thanks to Misty and Brian and Mookie for taking care of Ally, Seth and Paul above the call of duty. Thanks to Grandma Braithwaite, Grandma White and Papa White for visiting Trevin at the hospital.
Finally, here's a love note to Trevin from his Mom:
Said the mother horse to her child,
"I love you as much as a warm summer breeze."
Said the mother bear to her child,
"I love you as much as the forest has trees."
Said the mother camel to her child,
"I love you as much as the desert is dry."
Said the mother goose to her child,
"I love you as much as the endless blue sky."
Said the mother sheep to her child,
"I love you as much as the grass on the hill."
Said the mother mouse to her child,
"I love you as much as the grain in the mill."
Said the mother goat to her child,
"I love you as much as the mountain is steep."
Said the mother whale to her child,
"I love you as much as the ocean is deep."
Now sleep, child of mine, while the stars shine above--
I love you as much as a mother can love.
